Turn the Tables and Win

Chessorb Classic, Issue #133 -- GOTM #103

Chessorb Classic
The hardest games to lose are the ones where you worked hard and played inspired moves to earn a real advantage only to lose it all in the end. If you're outplayed from the start, no problem, you tip your hat and say well played. But those ones you let slip away...

And it's not merely losing a won game, but losing a game that for so long you were proud of. A game that was making you feel full. A game that was shaping up to be one of your great wins. Those are the ones that hurt when they slip through your fingers.

And often it is just one misstep that causes it all to unravel. And not necessarily an obvious blunder. You can miss a subtle detail, leave a loose end untied, something almost unseen that can later prove your undoing.

Something along these lines happened in this month's game. A definite edge suddenly slipped away due to a little oversight and the tables were turned. The game is a cautionary tale, how many games can be termed as such? You can enjoy great play from both players and I hope you don't suffer any reverses like this. Our game is another from Hastings, 1895. Siegbert Tarrasch played with White and Cart Walbrodt had Black.

Tarrasch, Siegbert - Walbrodt, Cart [C77]
